Where in Grabouw. The area outlined in this map and guide is from Eikenhof Dam to Klipdrif in the Assegaaibosch Reserve. It is the most convenient area around Grabouw to access when travelling from Cape Town.
When approaching Grabouw on the N2 from the top of Sir Lowry’s Pass take the left turn into Grabouw and head through the main street. Just before the river bridge turn left towards the Elgin Country Club, and at the top of the hill, as the road bends to the left take a right turn over the railway line. Continue north a further 2km and park at the entrance to the plantation.
A SAFCOL permit is required and can be purchased from the security hut at the parking area.
There are some other great areas for mountain biking near Grabouw. Oak Valley Estate near Elgin (see www.oakvalley.co.za) has 3 well marked trails in the fruit and wine estate. Lebanon, about 10km past Grabouw (see www.lebanonmtbtrails.co.za) also has a well developed trail network and is well worth exploring.
