Jonkershoek lies near the town of Stellenbosch in the south-western Cape. The mapped area consists of a large pine plantation, that sits in the centre of the Jonkershoek valley and is surrounded by the imposing Jonkershoek mountains. There are 3 suggested biking routes marked clearly on the map and described in detail in the guide. The routes are graded to suit all levels of ability and will help any visitor make the most of their recreation in the area. Confident mountain bikers will head straight for the red route and the 11 km of magic single track. Hikers can try some of the suggested routes or just adventure on their own, using this map and the routes as a guide.

Yellow 10km, 1 hr. Easy.
This is a straight forward circular ride suitable for families and beginners. From the entrance gate head into the reserve and after 100m take the right fork. Cross the Swartbrug….

Red Route. 18km 2hrs. Technically and physically hard.
The red route describes a great mountain bike ride, with half of the route on high quality single track.
Go through the entrance gate and into the reserve and after about 100m take the second left turn towards some buildings. As you proceed a few metres along this track look out for a small single track (signposted Canary) on the right hand side. This is the start of a superbly designed 5.4km single-track climb. The trail winds its way through beautiful pine forest as elevation is gained almost effortlessly.
The single-track ends at the third forest road where over 230m of height has been gained. Turn right and proceed along the road for 3km, straight on at the first junction and right at the second. At the crossroads turn right down Heartbreak Hill……
