This map covers the area of the South Downs National Park from the River Arun in the west to Findon in the east. Three great routes are described in detail. An easy route goes between the stations at Amberley and Arundel.
Two other routes start high on the downs above Storrington. These circular routes are described from the top of the escarpment, across the chalk downs and along the South Downs Way. There are great views towards Arundel Castle and the south coast and to the north across the Weald.

Yellow Route. Easy. 12km, 1-2hr bike or 3hr hike. This one way beginners route starts at Amberley railway station and finishes at Arundel station.
Head out of Amberley station turning left and left again onto Stoke Road. In North Stoke turn left and head up Camp Hill, turning left at The Burgh. There are great views to the north towards Downs Farm. At the T junction turn right and after a short descent turn left towards Wepham Down. Orange Route. Intermediate. 12km, 2 hour bike or 3hr hike. Start at the Chantry Hill car park and head out along the South Downs Way to the east. At the barn branch right away from the escarpment and across open fields. The trail continues….
Red Route. Hard. 17km, 3hr bike or 4 hr hike. Park at the Kithurst Hill car park. Head west along the South Downs Way and at Rackham Hill turn left. This trail bends around to the east along a superb quality and fast single track. Go straight across at the crossroads and continue to Wepham Down. Turn left and right through a gate and uphill across a field towards a copse to Barpham Hill.
At the estate road head slightly left to pick up another single track through woods and along the ridge line. Turn left at the major junction and along…..
Hot Tip. Take the train to Amberley. Head east along the South Downs Way using the maps from the Trailmaps South Downs Series. After a fantastic day on the downs head south to any of the south coast towns where there are shops, refreshments and numerous railway stations on the Chichester to Brighton railway line.
