Topanga State Park is close to the city of Los Angeles and only a few miles north of Santa Monica. Bounded in the south by the Pacific Coast and in the north by The San Fernando Valley the area consists mainly of a series of steep oak and chaparral covered canyons and ridges. In the west Topanga Canyon cuts deeply through the Santa Monica Mountains and in the east the map extends as far as Mandeville Ridge. Three great routes are marked clearly on the map and described in detail. They are suitable for both bikers and hikers alike.

Orange Route. Intermediate. 12 miles, 3 hours bike , 4-5 hours hike. Mandeville Ridge and Sullivan Canyon Circular Route.
Start on Mulholland Drive near the junction with W Encino Hills Drive. Alternatively join the ride half way round at Westridge.
Head west along the Mulholland Drive dirt road and turn left through the gate at the old Nike Missile site. This is a remnant from the cold-war days when LA was protected from Soviet bomber attack. Join the West Mandeville Fire Road and follow this along Mandeville Ridge as it descends….

Yellow Route. Easy. 5 miles, 2hr bike or 3hr hike. A mostly easy, out-and-back route, to the spectacular Eagle Rock formations.
Start at Trippet Ranch and head out of the parking lot in the south west corner. Climb gently to the junction and turn left onto Eagle Springs Fire Road……
