4WD Trails. This map and guide shows the legal off road 4WD trails in the Angelus Oaks, Barton Flats to South Fork area. The steep trails from the Santa Ana Valley linking to the Big Bear Skyline Drive (2N10) are marked clearly on the map. Radford Road (2N06) and Clarks Grade Road (1N54) are both very steep and it is strongly recommended to contact the Forest Service for current road conditions, and only use a 4WD vehicle with good ground clearance. Clarks Grade Road is part of the historic Rim of the World Highway and was the originally one of the main routes onto Big Bear used by early motor vehicles around 100 years ago.

Red Route. Hard. 12 miles, 2/3hr bike or 4 hour hike. This route starts at the bottom of Glass Road and proceeds 5 miles uphill on fire road before commencing an awesome 6 mile single track downhill ride.

Head east along Seven Oaks Trail (1N45) for 5 miles to South Fork. Just before Highway 38 turn right onto the Santa Ana River Trail (2E03). This is an amazing single track that sweeps along the valley sides all the way back to just above the start point. It is a truly amazing bike or hike and is widely considered to be one of the best MTB rides in Southern California. Take care on the steeper sections as it is a long way down to the valley floor. At the road turn right to return to the start.

Hot Tip. Follow the red route with the yellow route and even the orange route for a very long and fantastic days riding.

Getting There. Angelus Oaks and the Santa Ana Valley is reached along Highway 38 from both directions. Either approach from Big Bear to the north and east or Redlands near Interstate 10 in the west.
