The San Gabriel Mountains north of Pasadena offer a variety of challenging mountain biking and hiking trails. For the beginner are the gentle and sheltered tracks in Arroyo Seco Canyon and for the adventurous there are steep exposed climbs and high quality single track descents on the Mt. Lowe, Sam Merrill, Sunset Ridge and El Prieto Trails.
Try some of these suggested routes or just adventure on your own, using this map and the routes as a guide.

The following are extracts from the Mt Lowe Map :-

Red Route – Mt. Lowe – Hard (30 miles / 6-7 hours biking)
This describes a very difficult and strenuous mountain bike ride. Take plenty of water and wear protective clothing. Hikers can use the map and guide for their own routes.
Park near the Jet Propulsion Labs (JPL) and follow the Arroyo Seco Canyon trail…..

Yellow Route – Arroyo Seco Canyon – Easy
9 miles – 2 hours biking or 3 hours hiking.
A low level route following the Arroyo Seco Canyon from near the Jet Propulsion Laboratory. Suitable for beginners….
