The Angeles National Forest in The San Gabriel Mountains is perfect for both mountain biking and hiking. This area is part of the Angeles National Forest and there is something for everyone. There are easy trails on flat terrain or hard climbs and fast descents for the mountain bike (MTB) expert. On any mountain bike ride or hike, you will see magnificent views of Pasadena, Los Angeles Basin and the San Gabriel Mountains. The areas lie no more than an hours drive north of Los Angeles and with mountain trails up to 6000ft it is truly magnificent. Try some of the suggested routes or just adventure on your own, using these maps and routes as a guide.
Getting There. All the areas are accessible from the 210 Freeway. For Strawberry Peak and Chilao exit Angeles Crest Highway (Hwy 2) at La Canada and proceed into the San Gabriel Mountains. For Mt. Lowe exit Windsor, Fair Oaks or Lake in Pasadena and proceed north to Altadena. For Chantry Flat exit north in Arcadia on Santa Anita Avenue.
