The Angeles National Forest in The San Gabriel Mountains is perfect for both mountain biking and hiking. This area is part of the Angeles National Forest and there is something for everyone. There are easy trails on flat terrain or hard climbs and fast descents for the mountain bike (MTB) expert. On any mountain bike ride or hike, you will see magnificent views of Pasadena, Los Angeles Basin and the San Gabriel Mountains. The areas lie no more than an hours drive north of Los Angeles and with mountain trails up to 6000ft it is truly magnificent.

Map 1 - The San Gabriel Mountains north of Pasadena offer a variety of challenging mountain biking and hiking trails. For the beginner are the gentle and sheltered tracks in Arroyo Seco Canyon and for the adventurous there are steep exposed climbs and high quality single track descents on the Mt. Lowe, Sam Merrill, Sunset Ridge and El Prieto Trails.

Map 2 - Strawberry Peak and The Arroyo Seco Back Country is high-up in The San Gabriel Mountains north of Pasadena and Mt. Wilson. The area offers a variety of challenging mountain biking and hiking trails. It is a remote location and the trails have steep climbs and high quality single track descents. There are 3 suggested routes described in detail and marked in color on the map.

Map 3 - Probably the best area for recreation and mountain biking in the San Gabriel Mountains can be found at Chilao and the Charlton Flats. The area is covered in great trails and has excellent camping and picnic facilities. Less than an hours drive from the 210 Freeway at La Canada, this area is a gem.

Map 4 - Big Santa Anita Canyon, in the San Gabriel Mountains just north of Arcadia, offers a variety of challenging mountain biking and hiking trails. Three routes are marked on the map and described in detail. They all start from Chantry Flat where the pack station offers refreshments, parking and other facilities.
